JACK HAYWOOD CUP THRILLER AND BILLIARDS ENTRY DEADLINE

RICKI SLACK was in amongst the breaks in the first leg of the J Haywood Cup.
MICK BUNTING meanwhile was at his "Drago-like" best for the No 2 team.
THE first leg of the Jack Haywood Cup team contest took place recently and the No 1 team edged out the No 2 team 3-2 in the first of the three legged contest (this is one more leg than usual due to the constitution of the local league fixture list).
Winning for the No 1 team were Ricki Slack (with breaks of 30 and 28), Colin Marchington and then Ricki and Andrew Brough took the deciding pairs leg on the pink at the end in a real thriller.
On target for the No 2 line-up were Martin Forster and Mick Bunting.
Also a reminder that the club billiards handicap entries close at the end of the October with a view to playing it off before the end of the year so make sure you are in it if you want to win it!

BOLEHILL No 1 BACK FROM THE BRINK IN PIPE OPENER WITH HARTINGTON RBL

IAN BIRKS and COLIN MARCHINGTON finished the night in style.
THANKS to a Hartington Royal British Legion "All Stars" team who travelled to Bolehill Institute for an enjoyable pre season friendly with the hosts' No 1 team.
Designed to blow away the cobwebs, the event had the desired effect as play gradually improved as the night progressed for the home team after some inevitable early rustiness.

Hartington started much the quicker, with Steve Hawkins (a member of both clubs) taking the first frame on the black, Gary Walker putting in an impressive display to make it 2-0 and then John Turner adding the third frame shortly afterwards.

However, Ian Birks stopped the rot in the fourth and then he and Ricki Slack further reduced the arrears in the first of the pairs frames to make it 3-2.

Ian then partnered Colin Marchington to enjoy his third success of the night, with the latter scoring the nights highest break of 27, to level things up.

The overall aggregate margin was 13pts in favour of Bolehill after at one stage being 76pts adrift after the opening three frames.

SEAN TAKES DELAYED BILLIARDS TITLE, PLUS 2 TEAMS AGAIN THIS SEASON

THE trip down from Reapsmoor resulted in a success for Sean O'Sullivan.
SEAN O'SULLIVAN of Reapsmoor triumphed in a much delayed club billiards final by winning an enthralling encounter with Mick Bunting by 125pts to 122, that handicapper fellow must be quite good!!
Entries are now being taken for this years billiards competition too which is likely to be run prior to Christmas and hopefully to its conclusion this time around!
Meanwhile, the Institute is set to run two teams again in the Darley Dale and District Snooker League with the No 1 team captained by Ricki Slack remaining largely the same and Mick Bunting's No 2 team just finalising the places for a couple of players as we speak hopefully though the majority of last season's team will be taking part again.

TEAM SELECTION MEETING NEW DATE

THE TEAM SELECTION MEETING for the 2013/14 Darley Dale & District Snooker & Billiards League season will provisionally now be held on TUESDAY, AUGUST 20th @ 7.30pm (sorry for the late date amendment due to some committee members being unavailable on the original date).
All interested players with up to date membership are encouraged to attend.
The No 1 team finished runners up in A Division last season and also won the Captains Cup which were the same two excellent achievements replicated from the previous season, while the No 2 team were gallant runners up in the latter event.

BOLEHILL TEAMS DO BATTLE IN PRESTIGIOUS LEAGUE CUP FINAL

BOLEHILL INSTITUTE No 1 and No 2 teams on final night.
L-R: Mick Bunting, Colin Marchington, Keith Robertson, Ian Peacock, Martin Forster, Ian Birks, Simon Zoppi, Ricki Slack and Andrew Brough.
A HISTORIC night took place recently as for the first time ever Bolehill Institute provided both finalists for the Darley Dale Snooker League's prestigious Captains Cup Team final.
And it was the No 1 team who took the spoils to retain the trophy they won last year as they triumphed overall on the points aggregate format competition by 298 to 213.
Bolehill No 1 earlier came through matches with Gladiators Social Club, Jaxx Q Club and Marehay Miners Welfare previously while the No 2 team had seen off Belper Strutt Club No 1 and Edgefold Club en route to the final.
Until last season, it had been 15 years since Bolehill lifted the trophy, on that occasion the late president, chairman and former captain of the No 1 team Alan Hopkinson leading the team to victory so it was a fitting tribute that both teams should go all the way in the current season.

MEMORIAL QUIZ NIGHT A BIG SUCCESS

A VERY enjoyable and well attended quiz night was held in memory of Alan and congratulations go to the winning team captained by that wise old globetrotting sage that is Mark Sayer, who received £20, despite getting their hippos and crocodiles in a muddle...also thanks to June Jepson who put in a sterling performance to save my own team from total embarrassment...hard luck to the damp toilet roll winners!! Also a beautiful bouquet of flowers was presented to Joyce beforehand by Mick, a big thanks to everyone who attended and of course to those who researched all the questions beforehand!

MEMBERS PAY TRIBUTE TO ALAN....

We would like to send out our condolences to the Family of Alan Hopkinson, the Chairman and newly elected President of Bolehill Snooker Club who passed away recently. He was a great great man and will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

"He inspired players and always gave his all in whichever position he held at the club. He also actively encouraged snooker in Derbyshire and was a vital member of the snooker league.

It is such a sad day but he has brought happiness and laughs to the lives of many many people and who those who met him, will feel privileged they got to.

We hope you Rest in Peace Alan and you shall forever be loved and missed by all the members of the Bolehill Institute."

"A massive loss for all at the club, Alan was in many ways Mr Bolehill Institute, match nights won't be quite the same again without him calling round for his usual game of cards and a pint.

He always worked long and hard to see the club through to still be successfully operational today....and of course he was a longstanding captain for many years of the club's "No 1" snooker team, let's hope we can all continue his legacy..."

"I can never go to the club again and not think of you Alan. You always made me laugh and treated me like a mate. You will live on in our memories always and thats immortality."

KEITH IS ON CUE FOR CHRISTMAS PARTY

KEITH ROBERTSON, winner of the Christmas 3-red snooker event.
AN ENJOYABLE evening was held for the Christmas Party get-together which saw 15 members contest a varied array of sporting knockout competitions.
Winner of the traditional (mostly) 3-red "Flying" snooker knockout competition was Keith Robertson of Bonsall, who defeated the No 2 team captain Mick Bunting in the final, which was the only contest played with a full pack.

He had earlier come through matches against David Marchington, Andrew Brough and Ricki Slack in the semi final, the latter seeing him score a break of 22 on his first visit to the table.

The final itself was a nervy encounter, either that or too much of the amber nectar had been consumed by that point(!), but Keith gradually found his feet to pull clear after Mick had made the early running.

Mick gained compensation by winning the dominoes competition, whilst Sean O'Sullivan of Hartington is fast becoming the local master of the dartboard with his third consecutive success including the last two Christmas competitions and last years round the clock event to boot.

Competitors paid £1 each to enter and the winning players took the pot for each event.

A buffet was provided by members, and the crib event was still going on well into the early hours, so details on that will be updated in due course....!!
